Highlights and tour details
This is an ideal route for many. A good compromise for those who want to do a couple of kilometers, admire beautiful hills and the charming villages of Novi / Ovadese without overdoing things. The route begins from Gavi in Piazza Dante just below the majestic fortress. Exit the village in the direction of Serravalle Scrivia and as soon as the road begins to flatten out turn left towards Monterotondo di Gavi.
The road narrows and climbs for a short distance arriving amongst hills planted with the Cortese vines which produce the famous white Gavi DOCG. Having arrived at this little village turn left towards Novi Ligure bordering vineyards and woods until you reach the SP 159 continuing in the direction of Gavi for a short distance, then head towards Tassarolo and from there to Rovereto di Gavi. the heart of the production area of Gavi DOCG where the vineyards lose themselves on the gentle hills. The trail continues with a gentle descent towards the valley in the direction of Francavilla, reaching which, turn left in direction of Capriata d'Orba and with a short but steep climb reaching the ridge again.
Now the road flattens out coasting to San Cristoforo, then right towards Tramontaba and at the next junction head towards Parodi Ligure. Descend back to the valley until the Abbazia Benedettina di San Remigio dating from the twelfth century, leave the SP168 and take the SP169 towards Santo Stefano and then to Bosio. Nature reigns supreme, outspreading even as leaving the small village, after a short while turn right towards Carrosio.
The road gradually follows the hills in a panorama of remarkable charm between forests and vineyards arriving at Carrosio, here head towards Gavi with the dominant Fort on the horizon. After a few kilometers downhill you reach the village of the medieval town from where you started. (by Matteo Gandetto)
