Highlights and tour details

An itinerary of 320 km that connects the hills of Monferrato to the Sanctuary of Oropa in the Biella area. Eight stages, all with departures and arrivals from areas  served by the railway line allowing you to take advantage of  the train + bike service.

Another short hilly stage, aesthetically perfect, one of those paths that we never want to see the end of, which we can make more challenging by visiting the many castles in the area. Even before leaving  Ovada crossing the river Orba, go uphill to Castello di Tagliolo Monferrato surrounded by its medieval village (r/t 4.7 km).

Following the Orba downhill route you  shortly arrive at the foot of Rocca Grimalda, a short but steep climb leads up to the Castle. Enjoy the flat path up to Capriata d'Orba, which preserves some remains of the fortifications of the X-XII century. From here the route continues with up-hills and downhills  through the vineyards, with short steep slopes to the  starting point. Along the way you will find in order: the castle of Francavilla Bisio, Tassarolo and  the Castle of Pasturana.

Well worth visiting is the Museum of the Campionissimi  in Novi Ligure, considered as  the greatest tribute to the history of bicycles and cycling, as well as to the two champions Fausto Coppi and Costante Girardengo, whose origins are from here.

Note: Pay attention to the traffic coming out of Ovada on the SP 185. Between Tassarolo  and Pasturana there  is 2 km of dirt road signposted as a cycle path, the base of which is in fair condition.
